Wills And Estates
If you have children, property or assets you should have a Will. Planning for the future and ensuring loved ones are taken care of is important to most of us. While this may seem daunting, these choices are far too significant to leave to chance or postpone for an indefinite someday.
At Canvas Legal LLP, we work closely with you to create an estate plan that works for you. We help you think through and make these decisions now, in preparation for the future. The following are some of the services we provide:
- Wills and Codicils - Your Will is the cornerstone of your estate plan. This is where you set out how you want your property, personal possessions, and other assets to be distributed after your passing. It is also where you identify a guardian and make arrangements for the care of your dependent children. Having a Will not only safeguards your wishes, it makes it easier for your loved ones to carry them out after your passing.
- Personal Directives and Powers of Attorney - While having an up-to-date Will is important for after your passing, these documents address personal and financial decision making if you lose capacity to make these decisions yourself during your lifetime. A Power of Attorney gives a chosen person the authority to manage your finances, property, and assets on your behalf. A Personal Directive appoints someone to make personal decisions for you, including health care decisions. It’s important to make sure that your chosen person has the authority to make those decisions on your behalf.
- Estate Administration - If you have been appointed as an Executor in a Will or are the Administrator of an intestate (without a will) Estate, our team can help you understand your role and responsibilities and assist you in navigating the complexities of administering an Estate.
From our perspective estate planning is primarily about two things - empowering you to make decisions now for the future and making things easier for your loved ones during a difficult time.
